Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hope for this book is that it will help the millions of Americans counting on the Social Security System for financial support – now and in the future – understand why benefits paid by the System could either end or be significantly reduced after 2037. Trustees of the System say a 25 percent cut in benefits (or an increase in taxes) will be required by 2037 in order for the System to continue to operate. For the millions of Americans who currently depend on Social Security and the millions of young Americans who will depend on the System after 2037 a 25 percent cut in benefits could force millions into poverty. This book presents scientific evidence that the main cause of this crisis is the loss of millions of potential contributors to the System critical for the System’s ability to pay benefits because of a significant shift in the attitude toward and treatment of unborn children over the past 40 years. The book also explains how the root cause of the problem perhaps is a misunderstanding of how morality actually works when it comes to dealing with issues of life. Regardless of how one feels about the life of the unborn the fact is the loss of generations of potential contributors to the Social Security System is destroying the System millions of Americans depend on and will depend on to finance the basic needs of life. After 2037 a $1,000 monthly benefit will drop to $750 or a worker who now pays $300 per month to Social Security will pay $500 per month. As there are limits to benefit cuts and tax increases if the illogical moral thinking and the destruction of human lives continue at current rates the System eventually will be destroyed altogether and illogical moral thinking most likely would be the reason why.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although nearly everyone involved with our federal taxation system agrees that simplification of this system is a positive and even necessary step, achieving it has proven to be difficult. Exploring the issue from start to finish, this detailed blueprint to tax reform offers real solutions to the real problems of our taxation system. Author Donald E. Phillipson, a lawyer who has studied the tax code for years, reveals facts about deficit spending and the national debt and examines alternative taxation approaches. He explores problems with current tax subsidies and individual income, corporation income, and estate taxes and presents new solutions to those problems. Phillipson also offers new perspectives on the total federal tax obligations of individuals and relationships among taxes on individual income, corporation income, and estates and gifts. Our taxation system desperately needs reform that takes into account the function of the system as a whole. This study demonstrates that such reform is possible and that taxes can be fair, accountable, and simple--without the creation of new tax collection structures.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We're being scammed and robbedagain. We're being frightened, bullied and brainwashed into thinking that our entire future is at stake because of the "government's deficit crisis" and the "government's debt crisis". We are all being told: America, it's time to tighten the belt.It isn't true. There is no crisis. It's manufactured. In this book, Jonathan Tasini explodes the myth of the government's deficit and debt "crisis". He digs into the false statements about the "crisis", who is behind the myth of the "crisis" and he shows that we have plenty of money.Using his trademark easy-to-understand writing style, Tasini leads the reader through a clear, penetrating look at our economic crisis. He shows that there is a crisis--but it has nothing to do with the government's "debt" or "deficit".He argues with facts and figures--but not in a Washington wonky style--that the real crisis is the on-going robbery of the American people by the leaders who continue to sell us on the virtues of the so-called "free market".

Book excerpt: “George W. Bush is a liar. He has lied large and small, directly and by omission. He has mugged the truth—not merely in honest error, but deliberately, consistently, and repeatedly.” —from the Introduction All American presidents have lied, but George W. Bush has relentlessly abused the truth. In this scathing indictment of the president and his inner circle, David Corn, the Washington editor of The Nation, reveals and examines the deceptions at the heart of the Bush presidency. In a stunning work of journalism, he details and substantiates the many times the Bush administration has knowingly and intentionally misled the American public to advance its own interests and agenda, including: * Brazenly mischaracterizing intelligence and resorting to deceptive arguments to whip up public support for war with Iraq * Misrepresenting the provisions and effects of the president’s supersized tax cuts * Offering misleading explanations— instead of telling the full truth — about the 9/11 attacks * Lying about connections to corporate crooks * Presenting deceptive and disingenuous claims to sell controversial policies on the environment, stem cell research, missile defense, Social Security, white-collar crime, abortion, energy, and other crucial issues * Running a truth-defying, down-and-dirty campaign during the 2000 presidential contest and recount drama The Lies of George W. Bush is not a partisan whine—it is instead a carefully constructed, fact-based account that clearly denotes how Bush has relied on deception—from the campaign trail to the Oval Office—to win political and policy battles. With wit and style, Corn explains how Bush has managed to get away with it and explores the dangerous consequences of such presidential deceit in a perilous age.

He was a failed businessman who somehow was made rich. He was a minority investor who somehow was made managing partner of the Texas Rangers. He was a defeated politician who somehow was made governor. You can hardly blame him for expecting to inherit the White House. "Is Our Children Learning?" examines the public life and public record of George W. Bush and reveals him for who he is: a man who presents the thinnest, weakest, least impressive record in public life of any major party nominee this century; a man who at every critical juncture has been propelled upward by the forces of wealth, privilege, status, and special interests who use his family's name for their private gain. A Texan, political analyst, strategist, and partisan, Paul Begala has written a devastating assessment of the Bush brand of politics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Canada's aging population has raised cries of alarm from some quarters. Critics warn of a demographic time bomb waiting to explode and an age war over pensions as the baby boom generation starts to retire in the next decade. They say the answer is to get rid of public pension programs like the Canada Pension Plan and force people to contribute to their own personal savings plans instead. Will this spell disaster for the elderly, or is it a bold new idea for coping with rising costs? Monica Townson, a prominent independent economist, discusses the forces behind the push to privatize public pensions and looks at the likely impact of privatization on the financial security of futre seniors. She describes how Chile, under the Pinochet dictatorship, replaced its public pension plan with a forced savings scheme and became the darling of right-wing governments around the world, and how Britain, under Margaret Thatcher, introduced opting out of public pensions and triggered a major scandal involving some of the big names in the insurance industry. As the debate about pivatization heats up the new millennium, Pensions Under Attack provides the information needed to question the hidded agenda behind the current push to privatize public pensions. It will be a timely contribution to a discussion whose outcome affects the personal financial security of every Canadian.
