This book was released on 1996 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a study of American interventionism and influence over other nations in the late 20th century. The central question raised is whether the United States gains by its symbiotic relationship with authoritarian regimes, such as with Iran under the Shah, Nicaragua under Somoza, and the Philippines under Marcos. Today, while we often hear statements which imply that the U.S. has no national interest which is in conflict with the common good, the long self-searching that followed the Vietnam War should make us more aware of the complexity of American foreign policy and more skeptical of our leaders' enunciation of U.S. national interest. While presidents often make use of the notion of American altruism as a justification for policy (President Bush in Somalia and President Clinton in Haiti, for example), William Blanchard exposes and explores that myth and the conflicts inherent in modern American foreign policy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All of the gifts of the Holy Spirit are available continuously, effortlessly, and naturally to every Christian. First Corinthians 12:7–11 reveals the nine-fold manifestation—wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miraculous powers, prophecy, distinguishing between spirits, speaking in tongues, and interpretation of tongues—but the Holy Spirit has much more that He wants to share with all Christians and He is ready to fill them to overflowing. Most people believe they can only have one or two of the gifts mentioned in Paul’s letter, yet the Bible clearly shows that believers can receive all of them. In fact, the apostle himself probably evidenced all nine gifts. However, these are only examples of the way the Spirit of God may reveal Himself to His people. They are not the only ways He will do so. In Overflow of the Spirit: How to Release His Gifts in Every Area of Your Life, Dr. Mark Virkler and co-author Charity Virkler Kayembe, his daughter, endeavor to teach you how to connect with the Holy Spirit moment by moment and intentionally draw upon His supernatural abilities. You will learn how to tune to the indwelling Holy Spirit and release Him into every situation of your life. Rather than life being you in action, it will be the Holy Spirit in action through you. Blessings will overtake you as you live and walk by the Spirit. The overflow of the Spirit opens the door to an entire lifestyle of intimacy with God that, once mastered, releases the heavens and God’s provisions for your life. The authors’ clear, lineal, biblical teaching is interspersed with real-life stories that clearly illustrate each point. Application exercises at the end of each chapter help to guide you into putting the lessons into action.

In The Will's Harmonic Motion, author Fadel Sabry sheds light on this age-old question. An extension of Arthur Schopenhauer's work, philosophy, and discussion, The Will's Harmonic Motion puts forth an extensive discussion of how moral character is obtained and on what basis. It also explains the nature of morality and intelligible and empirical characters and investigates movements in nature, especially harmonic motion, and reviews the scientific laws that govern it. The study extends the concepts of moral characters and curves to animals, explains the mysterious qualities of creative power and healing power, explores the topic of pleasure, and addresses the mystery of existence. This study approaching metaphysical subjects scientifically, seeking to apply rational thinking to all topics considered, including morality, death, and religion. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this sublime book the minds of two mystics intermingle in a work of inspired vision and clarity. Jalalud-Din Rumi, enlightened spiritualist poet of Sufism, has been venerated by Moslems everywhere since his death in 1273. No other poet in history—not even Shakespeare or Dante—has made so exalted and comprehensive an impact on his own civilization, and in the latter part of the twentieth century he has become, for people of every race and creed, the poet of the new mystical Renaissance that is slowly but surely coming to its flowering. No one has done more than Andrew Harvey to spread popular awareness of Rumi’s message. Himself a charismatic mystic, he has spent the last twenty years of his life in search of the essential truths that could transform the spiritual barrenness at the heart of modern Western civilization. In his books Love’s Fire and Speaking Flame he has re-created Rumi’s poems with a brilliance that speaks eloquently to us today. The Way of Passion draws on the poems to present a guide to the contemporary spiritual and ecological crisis. Each chapter, Harvey tells us, is “a dance, a dance of mirrors, in which essential spiritual themes return to be reflected in different constellations and harmonies, a dance around Rumi and that mystery of Love he lived and expressed so completely.” Inspired by Rumi’s voice and by his own startling ability to see into the innermost heart of life, Harvey urges us to change, to have faith and to act through Love to transform this time of Apocalypse into the time of Resurrection. The passion of his words shines from the pages with an intensity that can embrace and inspire us all.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In February 1988, Jimmy Swaggart, the world's most watched televangelist, was caught consorting with a prostitute in New Orleans. This study examines Swaggart's rhetorical campaign to salvage his ministry in the aftermath of those actions. By analyzing his sermons, letters, and magazine articles the work seeks to discover the rationale that Swaggart offered his doctrinal community to justify the claim, I am worthy of forgiveness and continued support.Using Stephen Toulmin's model of informal argument as a tool to unlock the shared worldview of rhetor and audience, this study argues that Swaggart's overt stance, I am solely to blame for what I did, was not the conclusion his primary audience would reach. Using stories and doctrinal arguments, Swaggart successfully argued that he was not at fault for his actions, that his actions could accurately be blamed on other individuals, and that the entire ordeal would lead to an improved Swaggart. Yet because the arguments were part of the Pentecostal worldview shared by speaker and audience, many parts of the arguments were left unspoken. As such, they were completely missed by many outside observers.
